BADUNG - For those seeking a refreshing adventure beyond the usual city mall visits, exploring the natural wonders of a pristine yet well-organized village can be a great alternative.
This time, the adventure team from Gatra Dewata Group embarked on a journey to Goa Gong Waterfall in Sulangai Village, Petang District, Badung Regency, Bali.
Upon arriving at the Goa Gong Waterfall, after navigating a winding footpath, visitors are greeted by a serene natural landscape. The cascading water, appearing as if falling straight from the heavens, instantly creates a sense of peace and tranquility.
Located within Batu Lantang Customary Village, Sulangai Village, this 10-15 meter-high waterfall produces a thunderous roar as it crashes down, with its refreshing mist adding to the charm of the place—making it an ideal spot for cheerful photos.
Goa Gong Waterfall is approximately 40 kilometers from Denpasar, with a travel time of around one hour. The surrounding environment is rich with wildflowers rarely found in urban areas, enhancing the area's natural beauty.
To reach the main site, visitors must descend 100 steps. However, there is no need to worry—the path is not too steep and is equipped with railings for safety.
The adventure team met with I Nyoman Sumadana, the head of Sulangai Village Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis).
(Pokdarwis is a community-based organization first established in Bangli Regency, Bali Province, by the government on September 28, 2015, to promote and preserve tourism destinations in Indonesia.)

He explained that the Goa Gong Waterfall in Sulangai Tourism Village derives its name from two words:
• Goa, meaning "cave" in Indonesian, referring to a natural cave located behind the waterfall.
• Gong, as the waterfall produces a gong-like sound on certain auspicious days.
"Behind this waterfall, there is a natural cave, and on specific days, the waterfall's sound echoes like a gong, " Nyoman told the media on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
According to Nyoman, most visitors to the site are foreign backpackers, although some local tourists also come to enjoy the scenery.
He also highlighted the efforts of the Sulangai Village Head in improving access to the site. From the upper parking area to the Goa Gong Waterfall, a paved footpath with safety barriers and several toilets has been constructed.
"There is even a designated selfie spot on top of the toilet building, " Nyoman added. The infrastructure development is expected to be completed by 2025, including better parking facilities and additional amenities.
"Visitors can still come here, with opening hours from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, " he concluded. (Ray)
